How dry riser systems work?
Dry riser systems allow water to be pumped to locations throughout a building, enabling fire fighters to target fires at source. This reduces the time to extinguish a blaze, subsequently minimising the risk to life and fire damage.
Dry riser systems comprise of a series of pipes which run from an inlet valve, usually situated in a cabinet outside the building, to a series of ‘landing’ valves located at predetermined points on each floor. Hoses can then be connected to the valves and water is supplied by a fire engine equipped with a powerful pump.
In larger buildings, you’ll need a different solution – a wet riser system, which ensures water is permanently available at the landing valves via a pressurised system and tank.
