How do wet riser fire protection systems work?
Having immediate access to a high pressure water supply is essential when dealing with incidents in large buildings, maximising the opportunity to extinguish fires as quickly as possible, saving lives and minimising damage.
Wet riser systems involve the installation of pipework throughout a building, which is permanently charged with water from a pressurised system, fed by a tank and pump set. Access points – known as landing valves – are installed at strategic points, allowing the fire service to attach hoses and gain immediate access to this pressurised water supply.
In smaller buildings, a dry riser system may be more suitable, where water is pumped through the building’s pipework from an external water source.
